One player was missing when the team got together in Frankfurt today. The players had been given until 13:00 CEST to meet up at Villa Kennedy, but manager Joachim Löw and his assistant Thomas Schneider could only greet 19 of the 20 players called up to the national side – Julian Draxler was absent.
The Schalke 04 attacking midfielder is suffering with a cold and explained to the management on Tuesday morning that he was unable to make the trip to Frankfurt. Daily discussions will take place between the player, the medical staff and the management as to whether Draxler will join up with the squad at a later point.
That still leaves the door open for the 21-year-old to feature in the EURO 2016 qualifiers against table-toppers Poland in Warsaw on Saturday (20:45 CEST) and against Ireland in Draxler’s home stadium in Gelsenkirchen next Tuesday (20:45 CEST).
