DFB extend Köpke and Schneider contracts

Having extended the contract of head coach Joachim Löw to beyond the 2020 European Championship back in October 2016, the German Football Association (DFB) is delighted to announce that both Andreas Köpke and Thomas Schneider have also extended until 2020. Köpke has been a part of the national team set-up as a goalkeeping coach since 2004, while Thomas Schneider joined the team in October 2014 as an assistant coach. The contracts of team manager Oliver Bierhoff and assistant coach Marcus Sorg also run until 2020.

DFB president Reinhard Grindel: "Continuity and reliability at the head of the national team is very important to us. We were therefore more than happy to grant Jogi Löw’s wish to keep the complete coaching team together. We have huge faith in our coaching team, which has led the national team in a professional manner and successfully developed them over recent years."

Löw: "Together we gave big goals"

Andreas Köpke shared: "The work I do with Jogi Löw, Oliver Bierhoff, Thomas Schneider and Marcus Sorg is fantastic. We can all rely on each other, everyone knows their jobs and their role. Even during difficult phases, we have always remained true to our philosophy. I’m looking forward to attacking the next big goals together with the team.”

Thomas Schneider added: "I can only echo Andy Köpke’s words. I’m also really looking forward to chasing our big goals with the coaching team, the team itself and the team behind the team."

Head coach Joachim Löw on the contract extensions: "I’d like to thank DFB president Reinhard Grindel and general secretary Dr Friedrich Curtius for the faith they have shown in our work. Together we have big goals ahead of us. Currently the only thing we are all focused on is qualifying for the World Cup in Russia as group winners."
