Demme to miss Confed Cup with injury

Germany and Joachim Löw have suffered a blow ahead of this weekend’s Confed Cup in Russia after RB Leipzig midfielder Diego Demme injured his back on Tuesday meaning he will miss the competition. Löw will not be calling up anyone to replace Demme for the tournament which will act as a preparation event for next summer’s World Cup.

Demme, who made his Germany debut as a substitute in Saturday’s 7-0 World Cup qualifier win over San Marino, will remain with the team until Thursday to receive treatment. Die Mannschaft’s first game at the 2017 Confed Cup will be against Australia on Monday at 17:00CEST in Sochi.
