Boateng, Kroos and Kimmich nominated for UEFA Team of the Year

Three Germany internationals are in contention to make the UEFA Team of the Year 2016, they are Jerome Boateng, Toni Kroos and Joshua Kimmich. Fans can vote for these three, along with 40 other players from across Europe, to create their own Team of the Year on UEFA’s official website.

While Kimmich is in the running for the award for the first time, Boateng and Kroos have both already been nominated before, with the Real Madrid midfielder being selected by the fans for the 2014 edition. The most successful German player in the history of the award is Philipp Lahm, the former DFB Team captain has been nominated for the Team of the Year ten times, being included in the final XI on five occasions.

The Team of the Year is not an official UEFA award, but it has proven to be very popular since it was introduced in 2001 – last year alone, more than seven million votes were cast.
